Schoolgirls League

The Schoolgirls League does not officially return until Saturday January 11th but if there are any Under Twelve and Under Sixteen teams who wish to play a fixture on Saturday January 4th, please contact your liason officer, Aine Murphy (Under 12) and Ashling Kavanagh (Under 16) as soon as possible and the league will do what we can to arrange a fixture for you

New Competitions

This season will see the arrival of two new competitions into the calendar although both have been played for, in the distant past. A premier shield will be introduced for teams who finish outside the top two and will give premier teams who otherwise have little left to play for, an incentive to keep their season alive. This competition was played for in the mid nineties but was removed by the committee at the time as an unnecessary competition. The other competition to be reintroduced is the former Gaynor Cup which was for the bottom four teams playing in the lowest division. This competition gave the smaller less successful teams something to aim for at the end of the season and was always one of the more well supported finals. The main stipulation for both these competitions is that clubs must complete their season to be eligible for the draw and neither competition will kick off until the league season is over. Possibilities of looking at Shield competitions for the other divisions is also being investigated and announcements will be made in the coming weeks

Procedure for Blanket Call Offs

As we head into the winter, weather is of course going to become a major factor on whether games go ahead or not. The procedure will be the league executive will make a decision on whether all games will be called off and will notify all clubs by text if games are called off. If your club does not receive a text informing you that the game is off, the game will be go ahead as fixed. Clubs are still expected to check their pitches early to see if playable and only contact your relevant liaison if pitch is deemed unplayable and if at all possible, check the pitch in plenty of time to prevent away team and referee from traveling.

Wexford Womens League Development Programme

To fill the gap between the Gaynor Cup squads and the elite Wexford Youths Women National League team, the league are implementing an Development Academy which will give players elite training to bring them up to National League level. This will be a six week pre Christmas programme and will be held in Carlow IT from 7pm to 8-45pm on Friday nights. Players must be over Sixteen and no longer eligible for Gaynor Cup or League Training Centre and while this squad of players will be partaking in top level training, they will remain with their clubs and the aim of this academy is to provide high quality coaching to players who are interested. Any player interested should contact Barry Dempsey on 086 8092020 or Head Coach Ronan Collins on 085 1424741
